About

With the sole purpose of creating functional, dynamic web sites, ManInMotion was created during the height of the so-called dot.com boom era by Kevin A. Miller.

Well before ManInMotion was even a sparkle in it’s creator’s eye, Kevin began his foray into the Internet realm by working for a startup ISP in Asheville, North Carolina called Cheetah Communications. While at Cheetah, Kevin developed numerous websites for local businesses in the Western North Carolina area. Soon growing tired of editing multiple, repeating header and footer areas for existing sites, Kevin discovered a wonderful programming language called Perl, which allowed for more dynamically built sites. Not really understanding what a database was, Kevin was able to build a form-based front-end and back-end system for Cheetah which allowed users to subscribe to services from the ISP, all data being read from flat .csv files.

After about a year and a half at Cheetah, Kevin found himself in wedding bliss with Geraldine and packed up and moved to the greener pastures of Greenville, South Carolina and joined the Information Technology team at The Appalachian Council of Governments (ACOG). As the ACOG’s first official webmaster, Kevin designed and built websites for a consortium of regional libraries in the Upstate of SC as well as individual sites for Greenville and Anderson County Libraries.

After close to two years at ACOG, Kevin left the public sector for a life-changing position with a privately-held company in Greenville, HomePoint.com. As employee number 35 at HomePoint, he rode the dotcom wave as HomePoint grew to over 200 employees and over $50 million in VC funding. While at HomePoint, Kevin discovered two jewels: PHP and MySQL which soon became the missing tools in a truly dynamic structured, website building arsenal.

Shortly before the so-called bubble burst in the dotcom world, Kevin took a chance and left HomePoint to join another Internet based company, 10Best.com. As a senior developer and sometime quasi-CTO, Kevin has been instrumental in developing four versions of the 10Best website as well as mobile/PDA driven applications, client-driven ‘poweredby’ websites for many Fortune 500 companies, XML driven webservices, and pretty much anything else which would allow 10Best to survive in the ever changing world of technology.

Sometime during life at HomePoint, Kevin saw a need for his newly acquired knowledgebase for smaller websites. Thus, ManInMotion was created as a vehicle to create dynamic Internet presences for smaller companies. Between switching out Wiggles and Scooby Doo DVDs for his rambunctious sons, Owen & Connor, Kevin has managed to produce some pretty impressive websites for clients throughout the country.

Though it may always be an evening/weekend type of endeavor, ManInMotion has built a steady client base, always relying on ‘word-of-mouth’ for new projects.
